Habitat for Humanity of Wausau completes 77th house build

Posted

Habitat for Humanity of Wausau hosted a dedication last week for the 77th home the nonprofit constructed in the area. The new house is located on Marguerite Street in Schofield.

Construction on the project began in September 2025 through a partnership between the D.C. Everest Senior High School construction trades class and Habitat Wausau. Habitat provided the plans, building materials, dwelling contractor license and oversight of the build. The school’s qualified instructor provided the curriculum, instruction and supervision for the student build.

After the students completed their portion of the project, the home was transported and crane-set on its foundation in May 2026. Habitat Wausau’s volunteer construction team, corporate partners and community volunteers worked throughout the summer to finish the home. Funding from the city of Schofield made the lot available for the project.

“Home 77 reflects the incredible commitment of our entire community,” said Tiffany Arnold, executive director of Habitat Wausau. “Through the support of D.C. Everest Senior High School, the city of Schofield, our volunteers, donors and partners, a local family now has the opportunity to build financial stability through affordable homeownership. We are grateful to everyone who made this milestone possible.”

Habitat Wausau partner families help build their homes through at least 300 hours of sweat equity and purchase them with an affordable, non-profit, low-interest mortgage. This model helps families build stability while investing in their future and their community. Since 1990, Habitat Wausau has partnered with local families, volunteers, donors, schools, businesses and municipalities to expand access to safe, affordable housing.
