5 things to do around Wausau this week

Posted
Get down at the Jackpine Jamboree, soak up the Riverfront Jazz Fest or make some fun crafts at the library! Here are five fun things to do this week:

Jackpine Jamboree

Sept. 3-6 | Wildlife Campground, Birnamwood
The Jackpine Jamboree is one of Central Wisconsin’s most unique music festivals, featuring an eclectic mix of folk, bluegrass, blues, Americana and rock music over four days. With a packed lineup, including favorites like Horshoes & Hand Grenades, Dred I Dread, Asydequest, Alice Di Micele, Sloppy Joe and Dig Deep, it’s well worth the short trot over to Birnamwood. Music starts at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, noon on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. on Sunday. What began in 1994 as a backyard birthday party has since grown into a beloved annual tradition, drawing over 2,000 attendees and a tight-knit community of friends who’ve become family. Tickets are $50 per day or $130 for a weekend pass. Kids 12 and under enter free. jackpinejamboree.com

Riverfront Jazz Fest

Sept. 5-6 | Pfiffner Pioneer Park, Stevens Point
A free jazz festival is one of the better ways to spend your long Labor Day weekend. This year’s lineup includes Paul Dietrich’s Elemental Quartet, Wayne Salzmann and the Groove Society, Clark Sommers WaBaSH, the Laura Caviani Trio, an Art Blakey Tribute Band led by Marc Jimos and Matt Wilson’s Good Trouble. Music runs 2:30-7:30 p.m. both days, along with a variety of food trucks, a children’s music making area and 50/50 raffles. Donations help support jazz artists and fund UWSP scholarships, with over $57,000 raised for UWSP jazz scholarships since the festival started. riverfrontjazzfest.org

Make It Up: Macramé Leaves

Saturday, Sept. 12 │ Marathon County Public Library, Wausau
Learn how to knot macramé leaves for autumn and turn them into stunning decor! Dowels, beads and macramé cords of fall colors will be provided so you can assemble your leaves. The goal of this series is to learn how to make the things that you would normally just purchase. It is about slow living, being mindful and putting your own handmade effort into each element of a process, while saving yourself some money and learning a new skill. This free event is 2:30-4:30 p.m. Registration is required to secure your spot and supplies. Walk-ins are welcome as supplies last.

Live Music at Burks Bar

Sunday, Sept. 6 | Burks Bar, Wausau
Enjoy folk music and classic rock from Stadium Dr. as the central Iowa band returns to Wausau at Burks Bar on Sunday. Their set starts at 3 p.m.

Mini Makers

Wednesday, Sept. 9 | Marathon County Public Library, Rothschild

Young children are invited to get creative and explore child-led process art with a variety of projects at the library in Rothschild from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Process art is focused on the creation part of the process instead of following a specific set of directions. It allows for many different possibilities while children develop their creativity, critical thinking and fine motor skills, and even gain confidence in their artistic and crafting abilities! Projects vary each session, examples of what may be offered include nature stamps, dropper paintings, paper sculpture, bubble painting and more! This event is free and open to children and their caregivers, no registration required.
