Cap off your Independence Day celebration with “the area’s largest fireworks show” from 6-10 p.m. Last year’s fireworks were seen in seven surrounding communities and shot over 600 feet into the air! Food vendors will be available on the event grounds, along with a full beverage tent. Carry-ins will not be permitted and all bags are subject to inspection by security. Use Emerson Street & Elmwood Boulevard gates for entrance. Parking is available on all surrounding city streets and Wausau Events asks that festival goers obey instructions from police and event volunteers to ensure a safe experience for all in attendance. Admission to the event is free. This event will happen rain or shine, but in cases of severe weather, the event will be rescheduled to the following weekend.
Thursday, July 2 | Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau
Join the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in the Margaret Woodson Fisher Sculpture Garden alongside instructors from 5 Koshas Yoga & Wellness for an evening of relaxation and movement. The yoga session will last from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and there is no cost to participate, however participants are expected to bring their own mats or blankets. Celebrate 250 years of freedom, honor and pride with local veterans organizations from 1-7 p.m. this historic Independence Day. Kids will enjoy a bounce house, facepainting and games during the adult social hour. Dinner is served 3-6 p.m. and includes steak, red russet potatoes, beans and a roll. Dinner is $20, free for veterans. Optional hot dog or hamburger meal is $5 for kids over 11, free for kids 10 and under. Enjoy dessert at the $1 ice cream truck! Event concludes with a color presentation and ceremony 6-7 p.m.

Dig in to history with a hands-on program about our prehistoric ancestors, led by educator and primitive skills expert Sean Sullivan, “the Mammoth Hunter.” The event will feature museum-quality replicas of fossils and artifacts, remarkable prehistoric survival skills and a reenactment of a woolly mammoth hunt that occurred in Wisconsin nearly 15,000 years ago! Participants will also have a chance to ask questions, see the displays up close, and take memorable photos. This free event is open to children and their caregivers, with no registration required. Concerts on the Square this week features music from Johnny & The MoTones: a Wisconsin-based blues group who delivers a fun, relaxing stage show filled with all the biggest blues, soul and jazz hits. At this free 13-week concert series, over 2,000 people gather each week to listen to live music, eat, drink and enjoy the Wisconsin summer nights together.
