7 things to do around Wausau this week

Get a corndog at the fair, enjoy St. Therese August Fest or camp inside the library, this week. Here are seven fun things to do around Wausau this week:

 

Wisconsin Valley Fair

Aug. 4-9 | Marathon Park, Wausau
Visit the Wisconsin Valley Fair for a diverse showcase of events including Marathon County 4-H and FFA youth projects, open class exhibits and over 150 vendors. Nighltly Grandstand entertainment includes music acts Skillet, Shenandoah and Chris Janson, as well as two nights of rodeo and the Sunday demo derby. Additionally, the world’s largest traveling amusement company, North American Midway Entertainment, will offer over 30 rides for all ages. Tickets to enter the fair cost $9 before 1 p.m. and $13 after 1 p.m., kids 10 and under are free. Histories, Techniques & Innovation in Print

Thursday, Aug. 6 | Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau
Join curators Shannon Pueschner and Amalia Wojciechowski from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for a three-part lecture series exploring the ideas behind “Hot Off the Press.” The series concludes with a look at printmaking processes, from relief to lithography and serigraphy, with a hands-on demonstration that brings the techniques behind the works on view to life. St. Therese August Fest

Aug. 8-9 | St. Therese Parish, Rothschild
Join HYDE Wisconsin at St. Therese Parish for live music, raffles, a food stand, a beer tent, children’s games and more this weekend. On Sunday, a chicken dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and bingo will run from noon to 4 p.m. Music on Saturday includes the String Cheese Band from 4-7:30 p.m. and HYDE from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Music on Sunday includes Polka Mass at 10 a.m., Polka Access from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Night Shift 2-4:30 p.m. More information can be found at the St. Therese August Fest Facebook page.

 

Camp Between the Stacks

Saturday, Aug. 8 │ Marathon County Public Library, Wausau
Escape the summer sun and build a cozy family fort right between the bookshelves! The Marathon County Public Library will provide some basic supplies to help you get started, but you’re welcome to bring your own blankets, sheets and pillows to make your fort one-of-a-kind. Once your fort is ready, snuggle up inside and enjoy a cozy family reading adventure together. This free event is open to children through age 11 and their families. Live music at The Garage

Saturday, Aug. 8 │ The Garage, Rib Mountain

Expect a high-energy show with sing-along country classics from central Wisconsin band Soul Whiskey on Saturday night at the Garage. Their set begins at 7 p.m.

 

Festival of India

Saturday, Aug. 8 | Stevens Point Area Senior High School, Stevens Point
Join SHAMA for the 40th Festival of India in Stevens Point. The festival will present activities, performers, speakers, a bazaar and a wonderful Indian meal. Multiple workshops are offered each hour in the afternoon between 3-6 p.m.  Festival guests can choose from a wide range of exciting, informative or spiritual experiences. The festival will be open from noon to 6 p.m. and there is no cost of admission, though donations are appreciated. To learn more, visit www.shamainc.org.

 

Concerts on the Square

Wednesday, Aug. 12 | 400 Block, Wausau
Bring your cooler and a lawn chair! Concerts on the Square this week features music from That ‘90s Band — a group whose soaring vocals, gritty guitars and distinctive sound samples leave audiences feeling exhilarated and entertained. That ‘90s Band is perfect for people who grew up in the 1990s or for anyone who loves the era’s music and culture. At this free 13-week concert series, over 2,000 people gather each week to listen to live music, eat, drink and enjoy the Wisconsin summer nights together.
