Kayakers, canoeists and boogie boarders of all ability levels are welcome to ride the rapids of the Wisconsin River during this weekend’s recreational release. Prospective rapid-goers need to sign a waiver in advance, but registration is done on-site for $20 a day or $30 for the weekend. The course is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Don’t want to get in the water? There is plenty of seating riverside to watch the adventurous rapid riders from the safety of dry land.

Rubber duck races will return to Whitewater Park for an afternoon of family fun beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. The Children’s Imaginarium will launch 1,000 lucky ducks into the Wisconsin River at 4:15 p.m. and one lucky duck will swim away with a $2,000 grand prize. The top 10 ducks win prizes. Purchase ducks at the Children’s Imaginarium for $20. Proceeds from the Rubber Duck Regatta directly benefit the Children’s Imaginarium. childrensimaginarium.org

Bring your cooler and a lawn chair! Concerts on the Square wraps up this week with a performance from Dig Deep: a hard-driving string band from Stevens Point that delivers a rare brand of bluegrass that’s influenced by rock, punk and metal. Dig Deep was originally slated to perform on June 10, but that concert was rescheduled due to severe weather. So enjoy this “bonus” week of Concerts on the Square!
